Student Theatre getting loud about turning 30!
By Jessica Pym

2008-2009 marks the 30th season of Burlington Student Theatre, and Rainer Noack and his talented staff are planning a year full of celebration.  The festivities started with an aerial group photograph on August 15, and will culminate in a gala celebration in Burlington’s new Performing Arts Centre, set to open in 2011.

“When we turned 20,” says Noack, Founder and Program Director, “we held our celebrations at Hamilton’s Tivoli Theatre, because there wasn’t a facility in Burlington that could accommodate us.  We’d hoped Burlington’s Performing Arts Centre would be ready for our 30th season, but since it won’t be, we’ll continue our celebrations until we can hold our gala there.”

Staff, students, and alumni of the local cultural institution are getting loud this season about what has made Student Theatre a success for the past 30 years: quality theatre, arts education, enduring values, returning alumni, unparalleled staff and a sense of legacy.

While dreams come true on stage, they are made behind the scenes.  In its 30th season, Student Theatre will offer a glimpse into a magical backstage world that few people enter, one that straddles the everyday and the theatrical.

“Student Theatre-in-my-life-statements” from alumni and students have captured the quiet, humourous, and poignant moments, giving members of the community insight into a charged environment packed with the exhilarating youthful energy of students striving to meet requirements and yearning for success.

For the 30th season, senior students will present Subway Circus on December 4-6, and their annual Mainstage Musical in May.  Little Performer, Junior, and Intermediate students will be preparing for their Spring Salute, which returns in 2010.  For information or tickets, please call 905-637-6000.
