Academy Students Honoured

On March 17, 10 students from the Academy of Film and Performing Arts were honoured
at City Hall by Mayor Cam Jackson for their achievements. Drama students Rachel Christopher, David Kelly, Morgan Mitchell, Kyle Sanders and Stephanie Traina received Civic Recognition Awards for winning provincial honours from the Royal Conservatory in Music for their respective grades in Speech Arts and Drama Studies. In the dance division receiving awards for provincial honours with the British Association of Teachers of Dance were Becky Fitzpatrick, Taylor Hunt, Larrisssa Jackson, Emily Kempe and Paige Vonk.

As well as receiving Civic Recognition Awards many students from the Academy competed
in dance festivals throughout Ontario and won numerous awards, including outstanding
achievements in musical theatre production, ballet, lyrical, song and dance.

In addition to competing, the students recently performed at a Youth Day concert at Ryerson University sponsored by the Toronto Folk Arts Council. They were a huge hit and the Folk Arts Council hopes to feature the group in many upcoming events.
