Burlington Student Theatre:
Staff Help Youth set the Stage for Life

By Daniela Carnevale

Children’s early learning experiences are crucial to their development. The best possible opportunities can assist them to become happy and fulfilled individuals. At Burlington Student Theatre we are proud to say our staff is educators who create the best possible opportunities and experiences with a holistic approach.

Taking the lead in our Little Performers Program for 28 years, Elaine Delsnyder, with her background in Montessori, educates the whole child by inviting them to participate in their own learning. By giving children the opportunity to make their own decisions and set their own limitations, our Little Performers feel a greater sense of self-esteem. Elaine is also co-owner of Clanmore Montessori School in Oakville.

With a hand in both the Junior and Intermediate programs for 18 years, Colleen Golightly, a teacher at Burlington’s Orchard School, continues to inspire energy and creativity. Challenges are turned into strengths and mistakes into learning tools. Our students have the chance to experiment and share in a safe environment and experience the world through drama where physical, mental and social challenges are respected and worked with.

For the past 19 years, our resident Choreographer, Heather Lewis, has made dance approachable to all students with her positive leadership and flare for presentation. She is a Child and Youth Care Worker at Orchard School.

Returning for his third season as Musical Director, Tom Altman, who is a member of the popular Top Hat Band, effortlessly navigates the world of music with students, translating the printed page into a chorus of harmonies
.
Leading the staff in his 28th year as Arts Educator is our Founder and Program Director, Rainer Noack. A former Drama and English teacher for the Halton Catholic District School Board, Rainer has dedicated a lifetime to recognizing diversity and abilities, providing students with opportunities to support their talents.

Former students make up the auxiliary staff. Their training in state-of-the-art technology will continue to serve them in all future endeavors and allow them to give back to Burlington Student Theatre. Our educators and leaders are the cornerstone of the future. With their dedication, knowledge and passion our students are in good hands. Hats off to them!
